ADJUST YOUR HEADLIGHTS QUICKLY AND EASILY IN AN EMERGENCY [Article Typescript with Original Photographs]

125.00

An original typescript written and photographed by Joseph H. Wherry, a prolific southern California based, freelance automotive writer most active in the 1950's and 1960's. This article, commissioned by the magazine SCIENCE AND MECHANICS for a planned annual on car repair, provides a do-it-yourself guide for adjusting the headlights in popular passenger cars of the era, in emergency situations. It is unclear to us if this ever made publication, but Wherry does appear to have received $175 for the effort.

Highlighted, in our esteem, by the series of proof photographs, one sheet showing up-close views of the headlight assemblies of various contemporary production cars, the balance with film noir-like views, shot from the driver's perspective, of headlights illuminating pitch black roadways.

WHERRY, Joseph H. : [Automobilia]. ADJUST YOUR HEADLIGHTS QUICKLY AND EASILY IN AN EMERGENCY [Article Typescript with Original Photographs]. [Chicago, Illinois]: Science and Mechanics Magazine, (1958). 4to. [8]pp. stapled bound typescript. Cover letter attached and with five approximately 8" x 10" black and white photographs (each proofs, composites of 12 contact prints) bound in between pp.6-7. With manuscript notes and corrections throughout. Photographs with several numbers written in large felt tip marker over images. Clean, near fine.
