[Album of Early 20th Century Photographs of Grand Isle, Louisiana and Barataria Bay]
A small album of 24 early 20th Century vernacular photographs which seem to capture Grand Isle, Louisiana and its environs. None of this is notated, though a clear image of what we suspect is the second Barataria Bay lighthouse (constructed in about 1903) and two views which capture Fort Livingston strongly suggest our suspected location. The contents are likewise undated, though the aforementioned lighthouse shot and general print qualities, dress, etc... suggest to us a likely date of about 1910.
Material on the remote barrier islands in Barrataria Bay is scarce and these survive as a warm and clear original photographic record.
[Photo Albums] : [Louisiana]. [Small Photo Album of Grand Isle and Its Environs]. [Grand Isle, Louisiana]: [ca. 1910]. Commercial album. Approximately 7 1/2" x 5." Green cloth over boards with blind-stamped ruled bordering to front around the word "POST-CARDS" stamped in white ink. 14 thin card leaves with a total of 24 black and white sepia-toned photographs loosely fit into corner slots of 12 rectos and versos. Prints each about 5 1/2" x 3 1/4." Exterior binding cloth heavily worn and insect-bit, most pronounced at spine. Photographs remain near fine.
