An album of collage work, clippings, and original drawings compiled by an anonymous, likely Bay Area teen in the early-1980's introducing a character of their own creation named "Weird Dog Spike" alongside generous graphic clippings from contemporary teen magazines idolizing New Wave performers and bands including Duran Duran, Billy Idol, Culture Club / Boy George, The Thompson Twins, David Bowie, INXS, and more. 

"Weird Dog Spike," according to biographical information by the artist, is a "defective poodle" born on April 15, 1962 in Anaheim. Their fashion choices seem soaked in New Wave glamour, sometimes literally as Spike is depicted as Boy George, Cyndi Lauper and John Taylor (Duran Duran). A coy note regarding gender notes "Hmmm...Male?" and additional captioned drawings, like one titled "Spike in the "Nero-Afro" Mood" activate his speech: "Put on Y'er Converse and Break if Ye Be Men!" And, one shows a buxom Spike "[...] in his cocktail wear" asking, "Another Shirley Temple, please." 

Three additional scrap drawings of Berkeley Breathed character Bill the Cat display an obvious influence for Spike and the entire album stands as an endearing vernacular production capturing the 1980's Gen X obsession with irreverence and popular culture.

Plastic comb binding inside holding 20 card leaves covered by plastic overlays holding 15 original drawings on approximately 8" x 11" paper (14 pencil, one pencil and felt marker) ; three ink and felt market drawings on small scraps of paper ; and 19 panels of mounted magazine clippings or clipping collages. Some clippings loose, drawings typically with some edgewear. Overall about very good.
