BLUE BOOK OF CUSTOM RESTYLING

75.00

An uncommonly clean first printing of Dan Post's seminal book from the burgeoning custom car scene of post-WWII California. Post had circulated mimeographed brochures containing some of the content later compiled into this, the first BLUE BOOK, starting in about 1944 (thus the earlier copyright date of '44 to to the title page), though this printing is indeed the first published edition of what would become an essential guide to builders and gearheads across the country, spawning two revisions (in 1951 and 1953).

Post had two years prior, in 1947, issued his first non-mimeo publication, a modest, staple bound production titled CALIFORNIA CUSTOM CAR PHOTO ALBUM, though broke through with this slightly more elaborate production which sold prolifically, via mail order in popular magazines of the day as well as in customizing shops which began sprouting up across the country ; this one with the contemporary ink stamp of Midwest Speed & Power Equipment Co. of Milwaukee to the front cover. These original printings uncommon in anything resembling collectible condition.

POST, Dan R. BLUE BOOK OF CUSTOM RESTYLING. Arcadia, California: Post Publications, 1949. First Edition. 8vo. [92]pp. Textured illustrated card wraps. Large ink ownership stamp over upper, front wrap. Scuff to lower front, sticker residue over printed cover price. Faint edgewear at spine. Otherwise bright, sound, clean. About very good.
