CALIFORNIA CUSTOM CAR PHOTO ALBUM

A scarce publication, often referred to as the "big-bang" of the American custom car scene: Dan Post's first book, widely considered the first publication of custom culture, birthed alongside the post-WWII hot rod and drag racing scenes in Southern California. Post had been issuing and selling crude mimeographed newsletters since about 1944, though this was his first published book. Done in these exceedingly fragile and simple paper wraps, photo offset printed and illustrated throughout with dozens of images of the work of the earliest custom shops in and around Los Angeles.

Post's entire catalog was reprinted in a deluxe box set by the prominent custom car magazine publisher Rodders Journal in 2013, though original printings, of this title in particular, are scarce to find. Acquired by us from the deadstock of a former Milwaukee speed shop, with the shop's contemporary ink stamping to the front and rear wraps.

POST, Dan. CALIFORNIA CUSTOM CAR PHOTO ALBUM. Arcadia, California: Post Publications, 1947. 8vo. [29]pp. Illustrated stapled paper wraps. Previous owner's ink stamping to front, rear wraps. An additional name stamp obliterated with black marker at front. Some small pencil number doodling to rear. Edges, corners crisp. Internally bright, clean. About very good overall.
