[Department Store and Mall Fixture and Decoration Photographs]

250.00

A substantial archive of product and reference photographs from the Earl W. Gasthoff Co. of Danville, Illinois, a longtime manufacturer of decorations, with an emphasis on holiday and seasonal retail fixtures and adornments. Contents undated, though print qualities and styles suggest dates from as early as the 1950's into the 1970's.

Highlighted by a series of 12 views of concept renderings and actual installations of shopping mall and department store Christmas decorations, the contents are generally accompanied by typed descriptive snipes, mounted to print versos with product descriptions, catalog numbers, prices, etc... A majority of the prints focused on holiday displays with the balance reflective of popular Midwestern tastes at Mid-Century.

Gasthoff Co. catalogs can be found from as early as 1927, when the firm appeared to concentrate on floral decorations and parade supplies. It seems to have endured into at least the 1970's with a focus aimed more toward the products shown here, though reference to any detailed company history has eluded us.

A large assembly of marketing images composing a rich visual record of retail holiday decoration at mid-Century. Peak Midwest.
