First edition in original wrappers of an uncommon work compiled by Henry B. Carrington while Adjutant General of Ohio, a comprehensive compilation of the laws, forms, tactics, disciplinary regulations, etc... of the Ohio soldier during the lead-up to the Civil War. Carrington served as Adjutant General from 1857 to 1861, leaving to take a colonelcy with the 18th Infantry of the Union Army where he rose to the rank of Major General.
A second revised and expanded edition was published in 1861. OCLC notes 18 copies of this first 1859 issue in American libraries. Scarce to encounter in trade.

Green printed paper wrappers. 26 figures including 7 engraved illustrations and a folded blank sample form between pp. 216-217. Rear wrapper panel present but detached. Previous owner's name to front over a small puncture in wrapper paper and an ink stain. Overall good.
