An assembly of three legal documents relating to the alleged June 1868 theft of "One light bay horse, with white face and two white feet and four years old" from a John Evans and allegedly committed by an anonymous party, a woman it seems, who is identified in writing as either: "one wandering Gipsey whose name is unknown" or a "wandering Gipsey whore."

Documents originate from the Delaware County, Ohio and include a warrant for the alleged thief, a manuscript summons for Evans, and a manuscript appraisal for the horse ($140). An uncommon and engaging group of frontier-era Ohio legal documents.

[Manuscripts] : [The Law]. [Manuscript Legal Documents: Wandering Gypsy Horse Thief]. Delaware County, Ohio: 1868. 3 manuscript legal documents: 2 sheets with manuscript cursive text to rectos only ; one printed "Write of Replevin" with printed forms and manuscript text to recto and verso. Folds from storage, small round areas of discolor to one. Overall group about very good.
