[Pair of Handouts from the Chicago Memorial Service for Minnie Riperton]

$75.00

A pair of scarce and highly ephemeral funerary items from the August 3, 1979 memorial service for singer Minnie Riperton held at The Sixth Grace United Presbyterian Church near her childhood home in Chicago's south side Bronzeville neighborhood. Riperton died at 31 following a more than three year battle with cancer in Los Angeles on July 12, 1979 and a separate service was held there on July 15th attended by more than 500 mourners with tributes by Stevie Wonder and Jose Feliciano. This Chicago service seems to have been a private affair for local family and friends as we locate no publicity in archived newspaper issues.

[Music]. [Pair of Handouts from the Chicago Memorial Service for Minnie Riperton]. Chicago, Illinois: (1979). Single bifolium printed pamphlet, about 8 1/2" x 5 1/2." [WITH] Single sheet, approximately 8 1/2" x 11" pale blue paper stoock with 'MINNIE RIPERTON' printed to upper margin in blue ink above the stamped image of a butterfly. Verso blank. Each near fine.
