[Photo Album of the Turin Auto Show and Associated Travel by an Executive with the Packard Motor Car Company]
A generously-notated album of original photography and ephemera documenting a trip to the 1953 Salone dell'Automobile di Torino (Turin Auto Show) and a corresponding tour through parts of Euorpe and the Middle East taken by an unnamed executive with the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit. The album opens with photos of the auto show floor and include clear views of seminal postwar sports cars including a Mercedes 300SL and two views of the Alfa Romeo BAT 5 concept car along with two enlarged prints capturiing the Packard Pan-American, an ambitious and impractical luxury concept car undertaken in the final years of the Packard's existence.
The balance of images document travel around Europe and the Middle East including Greece, Turkey, France, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. One notation from Bahrain reads: "Ahmeed Fakhroo, our new distributor, glances over Packard New Dynamic Super Plus sales literature." And another pair of images captures the storefront of an "Fakhroo & Bros. Showroom" featuring signage from western automotive companies including Dunlop Tire (Ireland) and Nuffield (United Kingdom). The Fakhro Group were among the first importers of automobiles to the Gulf States.
