[Pre-WWII Soldier Photograph Album]

400.00

An original photograph album of nearly 250 images chronicling the military career and stateside life of Stephen V. Socey, originally of New Jersey, and his time spent at Fort Slocum (Long Island), in the Panama Canal Zone, and in Hawaii from about 1936 into Wartime, ending about 1945. Populated mostly by vernacular prints, highlights include several intimate views of Socey and his fellow male soldiers (often shirtless, ocassionally embracing), a series of circa-1930's civillian motorcycle riders, frequent and extensive notations to print versos, etc... A particularly engaging 1938 print captured from below a fellow soldier has him only in his underwear with the caption to verso: "Man Mountain Pettigrew."

Complete scans of contents available upon request.
