[Product Photographs and Original Sketches of Art Deco-Era Lighting Fixtures]
A small archive of product photography and original artwork originating from the Dale Lighting Fixture Co., an Art Deco-era firm based in New York City. A printed trade catalog from 1927 located by us in WorldCat suggests the firm was founded in 1884. Mentions of the Company in back newspaper issues fade entirely by the early-1930's. It was headed by a John H. Dale, who had several patents issued in his name for lighting innovations in the 1910's.
The 31 original composite photographs and 9 original product sketches are accompanied by typed correspondence dated 1929-1930, with two different customers in the process of outfitting new residential construction with lighting fixtures. It all combines to form a relatively small, but stunning group on early 20th Century lighting design and marketing from a largely unheralded New York City firm. In addition to the aforementioned 1927 trade catalog (with holdings at The Corning Museum of Glass and Athenaeum of Philadelphia), WorldCat notes one additional recorded publication, an undated trade catalog titled "Illustrating artistic lighting fixtures..." with one holding, at the University of Maryland.
