UNION LABOR EIGHT HOUR MARCH [Pro-Labor Sheet Music]

$150.00

Printed sheet music for a piano composition by a Father August Forster titled "Union Labor Eight Hour March." Published by the Balmer and Weber Music House of St. Louis in 1903, it appears to have been released alongside another Forster composition titled, "Mother's Present."  We are unable to precisely identify him via typical reference, though a highly musical, German-born priest longtime of Ramsey, Illinois, seems a distinct possibility.

OCLC does not record the title. We find mention of its release in the 1903 LOC Catalog and at least one likely holding in the Sheet Music Collection of the Rare Books and Special Collections of the St. Louis Public Library. A scarce and evocatively-illustrated piece with relation St. Louis’ contemporary thriving scenes in music publication and labor advocacy.

FORSTER, Father August. UNION LABOR EIGHT HOUR MARCH [Sheet Music]. St. Louis, Missouri: Balmer and Weber Music House Co., (1903). [1], 7pp. 13 3/4" x 10 1/4." Loose leaves in wrappers, front illustrated. Discrete previous owner's name in pencil to front. Minor splitting at extremities of spine fold, scattered pencil notations to margins, small area of red discolor to final page. Overall about very good.
