[Famous Barr Department Store Interior Photographs]
Four commercial binders holding a total of 116 original color photographs documenting merchandising displays in four different Famous Barr department store locations in the greater-St. Louis area from 1981-1984. Each binder is hand notated to identify: Cape Girardeau, Spring 1981 ; Mid-Rivers Mall, Fall 1981 ; Chesterfield Mall, Fall 1983 ; and West County Mall, Fall 1984.
Present along with the prints are nearly 100 color 35mm negatives which seem to capture views in the West County Mall binder. Many of these feature a man in the frame whom we suspect to be Terry Lay, identified in an August 2026 profile by the local Heartland Art Club as a long time window display designer and visual merchandising manager active with the firm from the 1960's into the 1980's. Uncommon internal design photographs from the prominent St. Louis-based department store during the era of its transition away from urban retail storefronts and into suburban malls.
