[Manuscript Notebook on the Production of Coca-Cola]

$250.00

A compelling manuscript notebook recording in detail, formulas, drawings, etc..., on the process of making Coca-Cola syrup concentrate and its conversion into a drink in large scale production and bottling facilities.

The notebook is anonymous, though we suspect it originates from an employee of the corporate headquarters in Atlanta. It begins with a general introductory overview of trademarked terms, the basic recipe, ("A beverage syrup: Prepared with sugar and water ; phosphoric acid, caffeine, extractives from Coca leaves (cocaine removed) and Cola Nuts and other flavoring materials ; colored with caramel."), then onto highly technical processes and control information for various pieces of production equipment, information and contacts regarding their service and maintenance, etc...

A dense primary source manuscript providing a scarce glimpse at the notoriously secretive process behind the production of Coca-Cola.

[Food and Beverage] : [Manuscripts]. [Manuscript Notebook on the Production of Coca-Cola]. [Atlanta, Georgia]: [ca. 1949-1950]. Approximately 7" x 4 1/2" commercial notebook. Black cloth over flexible full card wrappers around a six-ring binder assembly holding a printed card calender (1949-1950) followed by 68 ruled leaves with manuscript print, drawings, etc... in ink to rectos and one verso. Entries typically neat and highly legible, notebook well preserved. Solidly very good.
