A compelling canvassing copy of Frank Loris Peterson's THE HOPE OF THE RACE. Peterson was a Seventh Day Adventist pastor and, at the time of the writing of this book, head of the "Negro Department" of the Church's General Conference. This copy in a brown, smooth cloth binding with generous illustrations (a few in color) and a sample of a blue and gilt cloth mounted in at the rear following 14 pages of pencil entries of customer information with addresses scattered throughout north Louisiana: in Alexandria, the tiny town of Elizabeth, and (most often) Shreveport. The sales entries seem to have been made in 1935 and record more than 150 names, mostly women. Some unfortunate material loss from spine, though uncommonly well preserved otherwise, particularly considering its obviously prolific use in the field.

Cloth binding sample mounted over interior rear marbled paper pastedown. 7 ruled leaves with blanks for customer information at rear, all with entries (most entirely full with them) in pencil. Spine cloth covering entirely separated and laid in loose at front as a single strip (retaining about 90% of its material, give or take). Otherwise sound and well preserved.
